Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Book Lovers and Beach Read comes a sparkling novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

I will read anything and everything by Emily Henry! Her dialogue is so incredibly funny, witty and interesting - it reminds me of the clever give and take I have with my siblings (them, not me - I am sadly the straight man, er, woman). I also love the well-crafted characters in all her books. A well developed character is so important, and she does not disappoint in this book. Great characters and great dialogue are important, but plot is #3 for me, and I didn’t enjoy the plot in this book. This is the 4th of Emily’s books that I’ve read in 2 weeks (see? Toldja I love this author, but she’s new to me!). Of those books, 2 of them hit all 3 points for me. This is one that missed and here’s why: I don’t enjoy a book that has some mysterious thing in the past that the entire story builds up to a crescendo, and would have been much better if they’d addressed it long ago. Because of that, it’s kinda boring. Just GET TO IT please. But that’s just me… I know most of your readers love it. But she’s such a great writer that I can’t give her less than 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

It kept me wanting to read more every time I finished my “one more chapter”.

I love the story line! Friends into lovers! But it is multiple pov but mostly between two characters and it goes back and forth with memories!
  • Sweet & funny

People We Meet on Vacation is a great light read that is intriguing. I enjoyed both characters but I feel like the last few chapters fell short. As cliche and romantic as it was, I was expecting more. However I have been binging all of Emily Henry’s novels and find all of them AMAZING

I’ve enjoyed other books by this author but I could not finish this book. It was hard to like either of the main characters. It also jumped around in a very illogical and hard to follow order. Just ugh.
  • Expected a lot more from the hype

First book I’ve DNF. I got to chapter 15, in two days, because I kept taking breaks so I could figure out if I wanted to finish it or not because I was so bored. I’m giving it two stars because every time I was at my point of giving up on it one of them would say something funny, but that’s all. I particularly liked the comment about his cat in the prologue, but it just went downhill from there. I didn’t even care enough to find out what they had a fight about honestly. I may pick this back up in a few months and give it/ the author another try but as of right now neither are for me.
