Description

Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload—and the secrets of her own dark past.

In THE PERFECT WIFE (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One), Criminal profiler-in-training Jessie Hunt is sure she's finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle's promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her Master's degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.

But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors—and their au pairs—all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses, and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal—or safe.

As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her—including her own sanity. Has she truly uncovered a disturbing conspiracy buried within a sunny, wealthy Southern California beach town? Does the mass murderer she's studying really somehow know the origin of her private nightmares?

Or has her tortured past finally come back to claim her?

Reviews

  • Not very original; but, the series shows promise

    By Angry_Tiger
The author seemed to take aspects from Rosemary’s Baby, Silence of the Lambs and Bones to create this story (there seemed to be very little that was original about this book). It was only ok (very slow till about the middle and very predictable). However, the groundwork could make for some interesting future books. The amount of evidence proving the bad guy guilty at the end is too overwhelming over the top (ridiculously unbelievable). Plus, if the bad guy was so smart up to the end, how could he have messed up so badly in his last scene? It didn’t make much sense. The main character is depicted fairly realistically with some flaws that adds to the character arc. I would have given this 4 stars, except for the several grammatical type errors throughout the entire book. For the most part, it’s a quick read and you get immersed in the story; until, you hit grammar error “speed bumps” (usually, at some of the best parts of the story). I hate having to slow down and try to interpret what was supposed to have been written in a sentence (it takes readers out of the story). I also feel the author stopped short of making this book more shocking/thrilling. The author could’ve used the club and possibly the incarcerated person for something more twisted to occur to make this book better and more noteworthy. Additionally, descriptions of what scenes are thrilling could’ve been made more thrilling by adding some additional chilling type descriptions. Scenes feel rushed; wherein the author could’ve slowed them down and added some anticipation, distress, etc. I liked this book well enough to go to the second book (hopefully, the author/rewriters/editors take more time in the future books to stem the flow of the grammar/writing errors…). 🤞
  • Okay Plot, Horrible Editing

The plot of this book is okay. It’s hard to take it seriously with all the mistakes in the writing.
  • A Suspenseful Read

Slow start but it picked up in the middle and the ending was good!
  • Great book with plot twist

I genuinely loved this book and all its plot twists. It was fast-paced with a lot going on, but that’s what made it interesting and a good read. I do have to comment on the typos.. they throw the book off a bit, but it’s not impossible to read over them. I’m very excited to continue with book 2.

I loved every second of this book. In the chapters of Jessie being tied to the chair I even felt my heart racing and myself speed reading to find out what happened. I love the fact there are so many books to go along with this one. Can’t wait to dive in!!
