  • A practical pairing

1: There are a few comments that do not age well, but were presumably of the era to some extent. Or at least the presumed social station. (An unkind comment likening someone to a POC, & a glancing disinclination to go to a Jewish banker.) Be warned; the lines gave me a pang. 2: If you didn't know before, this is a story of falling for the partner in a mercenary marriage of convenience. Now you know! It being a romance, there will be a HEA. 3: I had to look up the history around the Battle of Waterloo because I am terrible for dates. Look it up ahead of time, and what Rothschild did, the wretch. Though it is, well, spoilers.

I have read and re-read this book many times and it never fails to delight. These are Heyer's most realistic characters and most charming -- Mr. chawleigh and Aunt Nassington are particular favorites. A must read for any Regency fan.
