Not at all what I would typically expect from a romance novel. Toxic behavior mixed with lust and budding love… It was a little hard to like the hero of the story, but it was such an unusual story that it definitely kept me intrigued and was a fresh change of pace.

I’ve been eating through this series, about 1 book per day. Obviously she is overdue for my review.
However, I am glad I waited because I was incredibly impressed and delighted by this book and it might be my favourite (Demon From the Dark is a close second).
There is a lot of depth and dimension created in the two main characters. I think she (and her husband assisting at Deadline-thirty) really nailed this one. Both characters ended up feeling very real with the fickle nature of intelligent beings. It feels like she added much more internal dialogue to them than any of the characters prior in the series and this reeled me in. Although I confess, I’ve skipped a couple books and bounced around out of order.
I also loved that it was longer than the others and didn’t follow a similar conclusion pattern. The characters had several more ups and downs than other couples from the series; their relationship development was more complicated and I think this also added a very genuine feel, more suspense, and ultimately more reader satisfaction.
I know the author has continued writing other series, but I hope she got enough positive feedback from Lothaire to consider applying its methods to her other character development and story developments.
Love it! 👏🏼👏🏼
Best in the Series!

Having read all of Kresley Cole's IAD books, this one still stands out to me as the best. Lothaire is easily the most complicated of the leading males from this series, but I would be disappointed with anything less. Given that he is "evil", his romance can't be easy or simple. He has the greatest obstacle to overcome - his selfish, arrogant personality. But he does so spectacularly, eventually making huge sacrifices for his bride after a really rocky road. He is my favorite character and I love his appearances throughout other books in this series.
And Elizabeth is easily one of the strongest heroines in the series. She stands out from the others as being cunning and rational - she doesn't have the temper tantrums that seem common with with many of the characters in these books. She makes plans and sees them through even against the most difficult odds. She's practical and brave. The fact that she has the humblest origins of any of the heroines is just the icing on the cake.
Can't give this book enough praise.

I loved Lothaire. The depth of his mind was facinating. Please, don't stop the series here. What happens to Nix? There are so many characters we have met along the way. Please tell us their stories, as well.
Love it!

Like the intervention of Nix. When will her story come to life? Well developed characters, nice to see what was up with the mysterious Lothaire. Really liked the charactor combination of really old vamp and mountain girl.
Best I've read in years!

Lothaire is by far the most exhilarating, entertaining, and sexiest books I've read this year! In no way did Cole hold back with Lothaire. This is a definitely a must read that will be revisited again and again!!!

Perfect fun summer read. Very arousing sexual situations. Being bad is sometimes good.
